A film documenting The Seaside Sister’s residency on board LV21. Dubbed the queens of coastal themed craft in this review on Vintage By Hemingway, visitors were treated to vintage seaside inspired souvenirs and workshops. Nick Brown of the rare vinyl record shop Intoxica treated us to a surf and nautical themed DJ set. And the enchanting mermaid aka soprano Sophia Brumfitt lured visitors deep into the ship with her beautiful voice.

In the run up to the 2012 Olympics there is hot competition to become an international training camp for visiting teams. I was commissioned to produce a promotional film for the recently refurbished Medway Park to help attract visiting Olympic teams to Medway and to promote the facilities to the wider local community.

Introduced by former Olympic Champion and World Record holder Steve Backley, the film highlights the new facilities at Medway Park and includes footage of sporting events held at the Park including the Modern Pentathlon World Cup, as well as promoting Medway’s cultural and historical background. The film was first screened at the Medway Sports Awards 2010.

It’s been  hectic at the ranch recently. So much so that the blog has been a bit neglected. It seems that the new year has spurred on a lot of people to get a new web presence. We recently launched another two.

First to go live in 2011 was another website for Recover, counselling and clinical therapy specialists. Built on a wordpress platform this client is capable of fully managing their site’s content and structure.

Also launched was T J Marine, another wordpress design for this independent marine consultancy company.

Focal Point was a spectacular performance of aerial daredevilry and pyrotechnic explosions on board LV21, the finale of the FUSE Medway Festival.

Focal Point was a unique commission by FUSE. The finale performance brought together LV21, an iconic lightship moored on the Medway currently being transformed into a floating cultural centre, exponents of multi-disciplinary aerial performance Scarabeus Theatre, and creative pyrotechnicians The World Famous.

Light Vessel 21 arrived in Medway today and was berthed at Gillingham pier. LV21 is a 40 metre steel-hulled lightship being transformed into a floating cultural facility designed to provide a range of services promoting and supporting the creative industries in the Medway area and beyond, whilst celebrating and honouring the maritime traditions of the vessel. LV21 Ltd was set up by myself and Päivi Seppälä as a vehicle to celebrate Kent and Medway’s maritime heritage as well as becoming a unique venue with an individual and distinct identity, one of the area’s prime platforms for cultural activities across diverse artistic disciplines.

I will be basing my studio on the ship as soon as the initial renovation work is complete. Facilities will include a green screen studio, digital edit suite and creative workspace. Find out more about the LV21 project at the Light Vessel 21 website which I also designed.

Today sees the launch of the Our Medway exhibition at Rochester’s Guildhall Museum which includes a looped screening of a short film I produced about this Olympics inspired project.

Medway Council is determined to deliver a lasting legacy from the London 2012 Games, and one of its largest and most ambitious projects to achieve this is Our Medway. The project was recently awarded the badge of the London 2012 Inspire Programme, which recognises innovative and exceptional projects directly inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Fuse Festival finished this weekend and I’ve been busy selecting images and doing some retouching.

There were some great performances this year including a colourful Bollywood carnival with excellent dance routines from PGP, a unique Medway Safari from Play On Words Theatre, Parkour by Ashley Spider and acrobatics from the Black Eagles. The photographic journal that I am currently collating will go some way in documenting what has become the biggest free arts event in Kent. Once I have cleared permissions, images will be posted on [FRAMEDWAY], my public art project that promotes heritage and art in Medway.

I led a filmmaking workshop for BBC Blast when it visited Medway last week – 15 students, 4 cameras, 4 hours!

We covered areas of basic camera operation, interviewing techniques and production roles. I also took part in a ‘speed dating’ Meet The Professionals session where industry professionals were grilled by 50 young people who want their jobs.

Blast aims to inspire and motivate young people to develop their creative talents and showcase their art, dance, film, music, writing, games and fashion on a range of digital platforms.

The Medway FUSE Festival ’09 was launched this week with the arrival of the Neo-Futurist Collective at Upnor village.

A Call to Arms
After a grand arrival by boat, four members of The Neo-Futurist Collective stumble ashore – a man in a wet suit, another one wearing a pair of giant ears, one wearing a mask of a greek god and carrying a box of light bulbs and a woman with a basket of cakes and a huge ball of red thread…

A short absurdist ceremony follows where the Neo-Futurists announce their intent to the assembled crowd, followed by official speeches from local dignitaries. During the ceremony The Neo-Futurist Collective unveil a blank map of the Upnors to be filled in during the project.

This year’s festival is likely to be the biggest arts event in Kent. I’ll be creating a photographic journal and documenting this year’s festival which starts in Chatham on June 6th with a Bollywood carnival parade.
