Live Event Filming BBC Director General

This week Tony Hall officially started in his new post as the Director General of the BBC. I was called in to film his inaugural speech to BBC staff at New Broadcasting House and supply a live feed to other staff members that couldn’t fit into a packed press conference. Working in collaboration with audio / visual specialists Feet on The Ground, we were able to relay a live transmission and document the event for future use.

The appointment has understandably received significant media coverage. The live transmission enabled a wider audience of both BBC employees and other press and media outlets to watch as events unfolded, live in the building.

Cultural Olympiad Exhibition Film Promotion

With the London 2012 Olympics advancing ever closer, the Cultural Olympiad aims to create a lasting legacy by funding ideas and local talent to inspire creativity across the UK. Gillingham born Jon Adam’s recently exhibited his Look About exhibition on board LV21, Kent’s most unique floating art space. I produced this short film to document the show.

Look About is part of Accentuate, the London 2012 Legacy Programme for the South East. I’ll be returning to LV21 later this summer to film another Cultural Olympiad event, Dysarticulate 3.

Kings Ferry Footage for BBC News

In a week when announcements of rail fare increases hit the news headlines I was commissioned to shoot footage of King’s Ferry coaches, a cheaper alternative travel option available to commuters. It was aired on BBC national news the same day providing invaluable exposure for the client.

It was an early start to catch shots of the coaches leaving the depot at Gillingham and the first wave of commuters boarding. Additional B-Roll was then shot at Canary Wharf. A rush back to the edit suite for a rough cut that was then couriered to BBC White City. The story, including our footage, aired on the BBC News that evening and had national coverage throughout the week. It continues to be viewable online giving Kings Ferry additional longer term coverage. You can view the whole story here:

Music Concerts Filming

I was commissioned to film the acts at this year’s Rochester Castle Concerts that saw performances from Status Quo, Will Young and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Filming on a Canon 5d MkII DSLR made things easier when navigating through the crowds and a collection of telephoto lenses helped to capture some long range shots. I cut a selection of the footage into a promotional film for Medway. You can watch that here.

BBC Behind The Scenes Promo

This month I produced another film for the BBC highlighting the ‘behind the scenes’ operations across a number of BBC locations.

This promotional video was commissioned by BBC Workplace to highlight and celebrate the work of the hundreds of behind the scenes personnel. They are the invisible army that keeps the BBC running smoothly and efficiently enabling it to produce quality programming. The video explores the roles that they play within the organisation and recognises the value of their work.

ACDC Vs Iron Man 2 – Filming at Rochester Castle

ACDC Vs Iron Man 2 was an architectural projection mapping on Rochester Castle using the latest in animation techniques, a project by seeper, sony and jack. I was called in to shoot the night’s events.

Technically quite a challenging shoot and a really impressive spectacle for those that managed to catch the live performance. You can watch the full length promo here.

National Anthems Filmed for MPWC 2010

Earlier this month we filmed hundreds of school children singing a selection of National Anthems for the award ceremonies at the Modern Pentathlon World Cup being staged at Medway Park, 8-11 April 2010. The multi-camera shoot (including crane) was filmed over 3 days at the Brook Theatre.

Some twenty primary and junior schools took part in the filming. The children performed really well singing in Chinese, Hungarian and Polish as well as a selection of other languages . The films can be seen during the MPWC and on screens around Medway Park.
